Broadway's Biggest Night Unveils Its Nominees
The 2024 Tony Awards nominations were announced today, and while there were some dazzling star names leading the nominations, there were also several notable snubs and surprises.
Among the most surprising nominations is the inclusion of "The Wiz" in the Best Musical category. The show, which features music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, has not been a critical or commercial success. However, it did receive a nomination for Best Costume Design.
Another surprise nomination is that of Steve Carell for his performance in "The Glass Menagerie." Carell is a well-known actor, but he has not been seen on Broadway in a leading role in many years. His nomination is likely due to his strong performance in the play, which has received rave reviews.
